PUTNAM COUNTY

Putnam County, home to Tennessee Technological University, is among the most populated counties in the Upper Cumberland, with more than 80,000 residents. The county includes the county seat, Cookeville, and the incorporated communities of Algood, Baxter, and Monterey.

The county stretches from the Cumberland Plateau to the west, across the Highland Rim, and into the Central Basin of Tennessee. The more than 400 square miles within the county limits features mountainous terrain and rolling hills.

Interstate 40 cuts a swath through Putnam County, with more than 40,000 motorists making their way to the east and west each day. Large trucks use this corridor to transport freight across the country.
